So it’s the Christmas season yet again. I do like Christmas, especially in the south. Where else other than like Miami can you literally be outside in short sleeves during the holiday season? The south. I also like decorating the tree, watching my favorite holiday movies, and christmas lights. Last year Laura and I showed you some lights from around our neighborhood. This year I actually participated and put up some exterior lights of our own. They came out good after several attempts to hang/get the lights to work/not burn the house down because I didn’t read the instructions which said not to attach more than two to three strands in a row. Thank you blown fuse for protecting my home from the craziness of like 10 interconnected strands on one plug. Ohms my! (science pun…mu-ha-ha-ha). Anywho, there is one other facet of Christmas that I enjoy and that is Christmas music.
Christmas music just makes me happy. Well not just any Christmas music, but old Christmas carols and especially jazz arrangements. I believe that jazz was indeed invented for Christmas. So with so many great songs and great arrangements, I thought to myself, “Self, why don’t you arrange on old Christmas carol.” So I did. This was not actually my original intent. I had some time off from school and a few melodic ideas in my head which I began to write down in hopes of creating a cool jazz fusion tune like the last song, but after awhile it became apparent that the melody of Joy to the World would fit quite nicely with everything else going on. So after a few melodic and harmonic corrections, several hours on the mac and on the keyboard, and a little shot of my feeling like I wanted to dance that day, the Joy Remix was born. It’s short because I didn’t want it to become boring just repeating the melody, but the arrangement definitely makes me happy and makes me want to dance. Enjoy!
