Anniversary Weekend

Well, in the midst of a chaotic holiday season, we neglected to tell y’all about our anniversary trip which was a week before Christmas. By the time we got back from that trip, we were packing for the trips to visit our families for Christmas and New Years and we just totally forgot to talk about our 2 year Anniversary! So, Laura and I celebrated 2 years of marital bliss this past December 20th. Yay!  This year we celebrated by renting a mountain cabin in Ellijay.  The cabin was amazing and was isolated (and by isolated, I mean we drove like 1.5 miles on a narrow gravel road through the mountains).  The cabin also had spectacular and breathtaking views.  It had a nice little kitchen, a living room with a fireplace,  huge master bedroom, tv room downstairs, and the big ticket item…a HOT TUB!  I pretty much discovered that one spells romantic: h-o-t-t-u-b.  That was definitely the highlight, because we could go on the porch and look up at all the stars in the crisp wintery air.  The only problem was getting out of the tub. Fortunately, that wasn’t too terrible because my body was so warm that by the time I could register cold, I was already inside.  Plus, we looked pretty cool getting out because our whole bodies were steaming…we kind of looked like hard core athletes.  It was so quiet at the cabin that we were able to relax and read and play board games together.  Here are some pictures of the cabin!

So, as mentioned before we enjoyed the quietness of the mountain seclusion by reading, etc.  But we also went out and did some hiking in the area.  We hiked this trail called Bear Creek Trail.  It was an awesome trail with lots of river crossings and beautiful scenery.  We even saw some awesome towers or icicles coming off of rock outcroppings.  They were cool.  The hike was a decent length as well at right around six miles.  Unfortunately, we did not come adequately prepared for the mountain chilliness and we got cold and it was getting dark, so we turned around to head back to the start of the trail.  We ended hiking about 3 miles or so and that made us feel good and ready for a hot home made meal back a the cabin. After hiking and a great dinner, we hot-tubbed (yes I just made a verb out of noun) again to relax and soothe our aches and pains.

We also got to spend sometime in the lovely little town of Ellijay.  There wasn’t much there but we did stop at an apple orchard because Ellijay is like the apple capital of Georgia.  There I purchased the biggest, freshest apple turnover I have ever seen in my life.  But it was also the most delicious apple turnover I have tasted in my life.  So tasty.

One final note about our trip.  We opened our Christmas presents to each other!  Since we don’t have kids yet and we spend most of our holidays with our family, we currently take the opportunity to open our gifts to each other on our anniversary!  It’s pretty awesome because it makes Christmas end up lasting like 3 weeks.  We open some early, then some on Christmas with a family, and then some more after Christmas with the other family.  so many gifts…

Well, all in all it was a great trip together and a great way to celebrate 2 years of being together.  I can’t wait to see what we’ll be doing to celebrate our 3rd anniversary but I’m sure it will be something awesome.  But even if we don’t do anything super cool our anniversary will be good because the great thing about marriage is just being together.  This last picture is breakfast before heading home.  We enjoyed some apple cider donuts and a cold glass of milk to fuel up for the return ride home (although we took a detour to stop at the outlet mall in Dawsonville).

Oh and by the way…Laura and I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a great little getaway!  You can access the information by clicking the cabin link in the first paragraph to get some information and book your stay!

  1. The whole "relax and read and play board games" thing was really sweet. Seriously.

And Jason's expression in the first gift picture made me laugh.

  2. This cabin looks AMAZING! We might just copy your trip for our anniversary coming up in March! 🙂

  3. You totally should spend a weekend at the cabin – you'll love it. Plus the owners of the cabin were super easy to deal with.
