Well…our Turkey Day was a marathon indeed. Probably the busiest thanksgiving of my life. In fact it was so epically busy that I had to take time out of my vacation to describe the jam-packed November 25th that I experienced this year. So here it goes…
Laura’s and my thanksgiving started not at the crack of dawn, but before the crack of dawn. Like the moon was still out and the stars were still shining, although since it was drizzling and cloudy we really couldn’t tell. We could just tell that it was still pitch black because it was 5:30 in the morning. Yes, Laura ran the Atlanta half Marathon which starts at 7:30 am on Thanksgiving Day. I was super proud of her for training hard for this race and I wanted to get her there in enough time to stretch, bathroom, etc so we left at 6 am. Now, there’s one thing you need to know about me. I despise Atlanta traffic, so you can imagine that I almost blew a gasket when I-75 comes grinding to a halt like 3 miles from where we needed to be this early in the morning. Fortunately, we were able to find a back way in and get Laura to the start with enough time to park, get a portable bathroom, and stretch out. Here’s my amazing runner girl pre-race!
This was the start of her grouping.
So, at 7:36 she crossed the starting line on her way through a long 2 hour metabolic trail of tears. Now, the question was, what was I going to do for the next 2 hours. Well, I did some reading and ate some breakfast, and took a little snooze in the car and then I heard over the loud speaker that the leader of the marathon was about 2 miles away, so a got out of the car and decided I should line the finish line to cheer on these modern day exercise gladiators. After he crossed the finish line, many more athletes began to cross so the cheering began so I stayed around to do my spectator duties, ever vigilant to find my wife streaking down to the finish line in a blur of aqua blue. I did see her coming down to the finish line and was able to take a great video of her pushing through to the end with me cheering. Her family was a little further up on the race course so unfortunately you can’t here them.
She crossed the finish line with an outstanding time of 2 hours 2 minutes, got her amateur olympic medal, and then proceeded to the family meeting area to meet up with me and her family, as well as to chow down on some much needed fluids and gummy fruits. Here are some of those pictures.
And here is her biggest fan with her awesome family who put off thanksgiving cooking to cheer her on!
It was very bright for this picture, hence all of the squinting and painful looks.
So after Laura claimed her victory, we went home and finished up the thanksgiving meal cooking and eventually filled our bellies with yummy sausage stuffing, green bean casserole, squash casserole, home made rolls, turkey and gravy and cranberry sauce, and sweet potatoes. Pretty classic and very delicious. After the main dinner, we wrapped up our culinary adventure with pecan, apple, and pumpkin pie. It was a great holiday with wonderful family and friends! We hope you also had a wonderful holiday with a lot to be thankful for in your life!
I'm a homeschooling mama to 5 energetic, loud, loving, sweet kids (Lucy is 11, Bridget is 9, Josiah is 7, Hannah is 4, and Clara is 1). I love cooking, exercising, shopping, traveling, board games, gardening, and spending time with the ones I love.
Me and my husband Jason started this blog way way back in the day before we even had kids! And you will see from our archives that we had a lot more time on our hands. In 2021 I decided to resurrect this old blog and start sharing with the world wide web again. Thanks for visiting!
